**New Delhi, May 4, 2025** – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Politburo has expressed deep concern over the impact of Operation Kagar, a central government initiative targeting Maoist insurgents in Chhattisgarh. The operation, launched in January 2024, has reportedly resulted in the deaths of over 350 Maoists since the BJP government assumed power in 2023, with 145 killed this year alone.
The CPI(M) statement, released Sunday, urged the government to prioritize the safety of innocent tribal civilians caught in the crossfire. The party stressed the need to prevent civilian casualties and called for the government to accept the Maoists’ offer of peace talks, arguing that a purely military solution is insufficient.
The Politburo meeting, which also addressed internal work allocation for newly elected members, highlighted the urgent need for dialogue to resolve the conflict peacefully. The party’s proposed work division will be further reviewed by the Central Committee during its upcoming two-day meeting on June 3-5.
