**NEW DELHI, May 4, 2025** – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the upcoming introduction of a bill aimed at curbing arbitrary fee hikes in private schools. The draft bill, already approved by the Delhi Cabinet, will establish a three-tiered regulatory system involving school, district, and state-level oversight committees to approve any fee increases. Significant penalties, ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹10 lakh, will be imposed on violators.
CM Gupta criticized previous governments, specifically the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), for failing to implement effective fee regulation, allowing private schools to raise fees unchecked for 27 years. She assured parents that the new bill will prevent further injustices to students. The AAP has yet to respond to these allegations. The bill is expected to be tabled in the Delhi Assembly shortly.
