**Colombo, Sri Lanka – May 3, 2025** – Sri Lanka’s Colombo airport underwent a comprehensive security search on Saturday following an alert from Indian authorities regarding a potential suspect linked to the Pahalgam terror attack. The suspect was believed to be aboard Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL-122, arriving from Chennai.
All passengers, including those in transit, were thoroughly screened, but the suspect was not found, according to a top Sri Lankan official. Sri Lankan Airlines confirmed the security search, stating it was conducted in coordination with local authorities after an alert from the Chennai Area Control Centre.
The heightened security measures followed a separate email threat received at Chennai airport at 9:55 a.m. claiming five Lashkar operatives aboard the same flight planned to detonate pre-planted explosives at the Chennai airport using a mobile phone signal. Although the flight had already departed by the time the email was received, the Chennai Area Control Centre immediately alerted Colombo airport authorities.
Indian authorities are investigating the origin of the email threat. Meanwhile, a meeting was held at Chennai airport involving Airport Authority of India, Bureau of Civil Aviation, CISF, and local police to enhance security protocols. The incident caused tense moments among officials at Chennai airport before the flight’s departure.
