Sun May 04 12:36:21 UTC 2025: ## Hyderabad Leads India’s Energy-Saving AC Campaign

**HYDERABAD, May 4, 2025** – The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) launched a nationwide energy conservation campaign today, focusing on Hyderabad to promote responsible air conditioner (AC) usage. The initiative aims to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions by encouraging users to set their ACs to 24°C.

According to BEE estimates, raising the AC temperature by just one degree can reduce electricity usage by up to 6%. Setting ACs to 24°C nationwide could save up to 20 billion units of electricity annually, resulting in ₹10,000 crore in financial savings and an 8.2 million tonne reduction in carbon emissions.

The campaign specifically targets Hyderabad due to its large population and significant energy consumption. BEE Secretary Milind Deore emphasized the city’s impact on national power stability and climate goals, stating that a collective shift to 24°C AC settings could be transformative. He urged the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) to launch a focused awareness campaign across various sectors.

TSREDCO Managing Director V. Aneela confirmed the agency’s commitment to implementing the initiative across Hyderabad and Telangana. Furthermore, BEE is urging AC manufacturers to set 24°C as the default factory setting for new units. Setting ACs to 24°C offers multiple benefits, including energy efficiency, cost savings, environmental protection, improved comfort, and increased AC durability.
