**COIMBATORE, May 3, 2025** – A long-standing traffic problem at Coimbatore’s Lanka Corner, a busy tri-junction, appears to have been solved with the implementation of temporary traffic islands. The initiative, a collaborative effort between the traffic police, Corporation, and highways department, involves using boulders to create small roundabouts, redirecting traffic flow and easing congestion at the underpass.
Previously, drivers experienced significant delays of 15-20 minutes navigating the intersection. However, local residents and commuters now report a significant improvement, with travel time reduced to just a few minutes. The success is also attributed to a recent police crackdown on unauthorized parking near the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
Traffic police plan to further refine the roundabout diameters based on peak-hour traffic flow analysis over the next few days. The seemingly simple solution provides a significant improvement to the daily commute for Coimbatore residents.
