**Thrissur, Kerala, May 3, 2025** – The Thrissur Pooram festival is set to kick off with a dazzling preview of its famed fireworks display this Sunday at 7 p.m. The “Sample Vedikettu” will offer a glimpse of the main event, scheduled for Wednesday at 3 a.m., featuring a fierce competition between the Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu devaswoms.

This year’s fireworks, themed around blockbuster movies, promise a spectacular show. Veteran pyrotechnicians Mundathikode Satheesh (Thiruvambady) and Binoy Jacob (Paramekkavu) are orchestrating displays featuring high-speed comets, spark showers, whistling fireworks, and shimmering fountains, creating a symphony of light and sound. Firework names like “Marco,” “Bazooka,” and “Empuran” hint at the scale of the spectacle.

Preparation is well underway, with launch pits being dug at Thekkinkad Maidanam and covered to protect them from the rain. The festival will include three rounds of fireworks: the Sunday preview, the main display on Wednesday at 3 a.m., and an afternoon show (“Pakal Vedikkettu”) on Wednesday, followed by the “Upacharam Chollal” ceremony.
