**HOUSTON, TX –** A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for ten counties in the Houston area: Harris, Fort Bend, Grimes, Montgomery, Liberty, Waller, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, and Washington. FOX 26 has declared Friday a Storm Alert Day.

The National Weather Service has issued an enhanced risk for severe weather, indicating a high probability of storms with damaging winds and hail. While the tornado threat is low, it is not entirely absent. Heavy rainfall is also expected, with the potential for localized flooding. The most severe weather is anticipated from afternoon through evening.

Residents are urged to seek shelter in a sturdy building on the lowest level if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued. Showers will linger into Saturday morning, but the weekend forecast predicts mainly dry conditions with mild temperatures in the 50s and 60s overnight and highs in the 80s.
