**San Francisco, CA –** The San Francisco Giants announced Thursday that starting second baseman Tyler Fitzgerald has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left rib fracture. The injury, sustained during Friday’s game against the Texas Rangers while diving for a ground ball, forced Fitzgerald to the IL after a recent hot streak at the plate.
Fitzgerald, who initially played through the injury, had a slow start to the season but recently found his stride, hitting .340/.397/.547 with two home runs, three doubles, and a triple in his last 16 games. He also leads the Giants with five stolen bases.
His absence will be filled by Brett Wisely, recalled from Triple-A Sacramento. Wisely, who has appeared in parts of the past two seasons with the Giants, is expected to see the majority of playing time against right-handed pitchers, with utility infielder Christian Koss filling in against lefties. Wisely boasts a .235/.325/.431 slash line in 118 plate appearances at Triple-A this season.
