**Manila, Philippines –** A speeding passenger bus caused a deadly multiple-vehicle collision on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, in Tarlac City, north of Manila, killing at least ten people, including children. The incident occurred during a busy May Day holiday period at a highway toll booth.
According to police, the bus driver, who survived and is in custody, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel before crashing into a van and three other vehicles. Eight of the fatalities were in the van, which was crushed between the bus and another car. A couple in a nearby car also perished in the collision. Over two dozen others sustained injuries.
Police Chief Lt. Col. Romel Santos stated that the driver admitted to dozing off.
