NEW YORK, NY – The New York Yankees announced today that they have claimed outfielder Bryan de la Cruz off waivers from the Atlanta Braves. To make room on the 40-man roster, designated hitter/outfielder Giancarlo Stanton has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.
De la Cruz, 28, will report to the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. In a brief stint with the Braves this season, he batted .191 with one run, one double, three walks, and one stolen base in 16 games. His minor league numbers were equally modest.
A veteran of five Major League seasons with the Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Braves, de la Cruz boasts a .251 career batting average with 58 home runs and 208 RBIs. He’s a versatile defender, having seen significant time in left, center, and right field. His most productive season came in 2024 when he set career highs in home runs (21) and runs scored (61) while splitting time between Miami and Pittsburgh.
De la Cruz was originally signed by the Houston Astros as an undrafted free agent before being traded to the Marlins in 2021. He was subsequently traded to the Pirates in 2024 and signed with the Braves this past January.
