Fri May 02 07:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Microsoft’s Gaming Revenue Up Despite Console Sales Dip
**REDMOND, WA – April 27, 2024** – Microsoft reported a 5% year-over-year increase in gaming revenue for its January-March quarter, reaching $5.7 billion. This growth was driven primarily by a strong performance in content and services, up 8%, fueled by Xbox Game Pass subscriptions and the popularity of franchises like “Call of Duty” and “Minecraft.” The success of “Minecraft” received a further boost from the recent release of the highly successful “Minecraft” movie, resulting in a 75% increase in weekly active users.
However, hardware revenue, encompassing Xbox Series X and S sales, declined by 6%. This decrease comes as competitor Nintendo prepares to launch its Switch 2 in June, while Microsoft remains silent on its next-generation console plans. The company’s decision to release select titles, such as the recent “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” on competing platforms like PlayStation, might also be a contributing factor.
Despite the mixed gaming results, Microsoft’s overall performance was strong, with total revenue reaching $70.1 billion (a 13% increase) and net income at $25.8 billion (an 18% increase). These figures exceeded analyst expectations.
