**KOLKATA, INDIA (May 2, 2025)** – Two men affiliated with the “Sanatani Ekta Manch” group were arrested in West Bengal for pasting a Pakistani flag on the walls of a washroom near the Akaipur railway station in Bongaon. Police claim the act was a deliberate attempt to incite communal violence.
Chandan Malakar (30) and Progyajit Mondal (45), both local residents and members of a political party, confessed to the crime, according to Bongaon Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar. They allegedly planned to further deface the wall with the slogans “Hindustan Murdabad” (Down with India) and “Pakistan Zindabad” (Long live Pakistan). A case has been registered against them.
This incident follows a recent wave of communal violence across India, sparked by attacks in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left at least 26 dead. These attacks have led to reported assaults on Kashmiri students and shawl sellers across the country.
The arrest also comes after a previous incident where the Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, falsely claimed that Kashmiri men had installed a sophisticated wireless network device. Police later confirmed it was a standard internet router. Authorities have vowed to crack down on those attempting to instigate communal unrest.
