MYSURU, INDIA (May 2, 2025) – An environmental NGO in Mysuru has successfully transplanted four mature Akash Mallige trees that were uprooted during a recent storm. The Action Committee for Environmental Conservation, a coalition of various environmental groups, raised funds from its members to complete the operation. The trees, estimated to be 15 to 25 years old, were replanted within five feet of their original location near the Kukkarahalli Lake embankment.

The successful transplantation follows the recent felling of 40 trees for road widening, sparking concerns among environmentalists. The committee collaborated with the University of Mysore, which provided manpower and equipment, while the NGO covered the costs of machinery, fertilizers, and other materials through crowdfunding.

Kamal Gopinath, a member of the Action Committee, stated that the project demonstrates the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of tree transplantation, directly refuting claims from some bureaucrats and business interests that such efforts are impractical. The initiative has garnered significant public praise.
