**Madurai, Tamil Nadu, May 2, 2025** – A three-day food processing and technology expo, “Food Tech 2025,” opened in Madurai today, highlighting India’s advancements in agriculture and food technology. Organized by the Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA), the expo showcases both traditional and innovative food products.

R. Selvarajan, Director of ICAR-National Research Centre for Banana in Tiruchi, highlighted India’s journey from famine to agricultural exporter, crediting this progress to research and development. He emphasized the popularity of bananas, noting that three of the eight GI-tagged banana varieties originate from Tamil Nadu. The Tiruchi center has introduced several new banana varieties and value-added products, including banana stem juice, pickles, and low-fat chips.

A.S. Sakthi Balan, Assistant General Manager of NABARD, stressed the need for investment in new ideas and addressing supply chain constraints to further boost the sector. MADITSSIA officials emphasized the expo’s aim to promote entrepreneurship and technological advancements within the food industry. Alongside Food Tech 2025, a building material and property exhibition, Buildex 2025, also commenced at the Ida Scudder auditorium. The expo will feature seminars led by industry experts.
