Fri May 02 14:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Shastri Calls for Fresh Faces in India’s England Test Squad

**London, UK** – Former Indian cricket coach Ravi Shastri has advocated for a significant shake-up in India’s squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, starting June 20th. Speaking on the latest episode of *The ICC Review*, Shastri urged selectors to consider several players who could bring a new dynamic to the team.

Central to Shastri’s recommendations is the inclusion of Sai Sudharsan, the 23-year-old batsman who has impressed in the IPL and boasts valuable experience playing county cricket in England for Surrey. Shastri believes Sudharsan’s left-handed batting and familiarity with English conditions make him a prime candidate for a Test debut. He also highlighted Sudharsan’s potential as a future all-format player.

Shastri also emphasized the need for a left-arm pacer in the team. He suggested Arshdeep Singh, a white-ball specialist, should be considered, advocating against limiting him to shorter formats. Khaleel Ahmed was also mentioned as a potential left-arm option. Both players have experience in limited-overs cricket but are yet to play Test matches.

In addition to these potential newcomers, Shastri suggested the return of Shreyas Iyer to the Test setup. While Iyer has performed well in subcontinental conditions, his record outside Asia needs improvement. His inclusion, Shastri noted, would depend on the overall composition of the team.

Shastri’s suggestions come after India’s 3-1 series loss in Australia, which dashed their hopes of reaching the World Test Championship Final. He expressed confidence in India’s pace attack, comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami, to perform well against England. The upcoming series marks the start of the next World Test Championship cycle.
