Fri May 02 04:01:30 UTC 2025: ## US Urges Restraint and Cooperation After Deadly Terror Attack in Kashmir

**New Delhi, India** – US Vice President JD Vance has called for a measured response from India following a devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including a Nepali national. In a Fox News interview, Vance expressed hope that India’s response would avoid escalating the situation into a broader regional conflict. He also urged Pakistan to cooperate fully with India in the investigation and apprehension of the perpetrators, suggesting that some terrorists may be operating from Pakistani territory.

Vance, who was visiting India with his family when the attack occurred, previously called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express his condolences and reiterate the US’s unwavering support for India in its fight against terrorism. This sentiment was echoed by other top US officials, including President Donald Trump, who condemned the attack as “terrorist” and “unconscionable.” While expressing solidarity with India, the US has refrained from directly accusing Pakistan.

The attack, which targeted the popular tourist destination of Baisaran Valley, involved multiple terrorists who opened fire on unsuspecting tourists. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as tourists scrambled for cover in the open area. Indian security forces have launched a major search operation. In response to the attack, India has taken strong action, including indefinitely suspending the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan and deporting all Pakistani nationals.

The Pahalgam attack is considered one of the deadliest terrorist incidents in the region since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019.
