Mumbai, May 2, 2025 – Maharashtra’s opposition parties have sharply criticized Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s 100-day performance report, released on Maharashtra Day (May 1st), contending that it glosses over critical issues such as a surge in farmer suicides and ongoing rural distress.
While Mr. Fadnavis highlighted that 12 out of 48 state departments met their targets fully during the Mahayuti government’s first 100 days (December 2024-March 2025), the opposition paints a different picture. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Ambadas Danve cited official data indicating a significant increase in farmer suicides in the Marathwada region between January and March 2025 (269 compared to 204 during the same period last year). He attributed this rise, along with broader rural distress, to the government’s actions.
Mr. Danve accused the government of focusing on election-centric announcements rather than addressing the core problems. He criticized the use of what he termed “divisive language” by the government and pointed to unfulfilled promises on loan waivers and budgetary cuts affecting farmers and students.
Although the Chief Minister’s report boasted that 78% of strategic targets across all departments were met, the opposition’s stark criticism highlights a significant disagreement on the government’s actual performance and its effectiveness in tackling pressing issues facing the state. The discrepancy between the government’s assessment and the opposition’s claims underscores a major political divide in Maharashtra.
