Fri May 02 06:26:26 UTC 2025: ## Mangaluru on High Alert After Second Murder in a Week; Prohibitory Orders Imposed

**Mangaluru, Karnataka:** Mangaluru city is under a strict curfew following the brutal murder of Suhas Shetty, a key accused in the 2022 murder of Mohammed Fazil. Shetty, reportedly associated with Hindutva groups and with several prior arrests, was attacked by five men wielding machetes and swords on Thursday evening. The incident, caught on CCTV, has prompted authorities to impose prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, banning public gatherings and processions until May 6th.

Police are investigating the premeditated attack, though the motive remains unclear. Four special teams have been formed to apprehend the suspects, according to Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, who described the murder as “gruesome.” The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in Dakshina Kannada district despite the recent violence.

This is the second murder in Mangaluru in less than a week. On April 27th, Ashraf, a resident of Kerala’s Wayanad, was beaten to death by a group of people following an alleged dispute during a cricket match. Twenty individuals have been arrested in connection with that incident. Police initially reported that the victim had shouted “Pakistan Zindabad,” but details remain unclear.

The escalating violence has prompted the deployment of additional police forces to maintain order and prevent further incidents. The city remains on high alert as investigations into both murders continue.
