**KASARAGOD, May 2, 2025** – The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has ordered the state Home Department Secretary to review the case of Rajesh, a life convict serving a sentence at Cheemeni Open Jail. Rajesh, who has been incarcerated for over 15 years, has petitioned the KSHRC for premature release.
The KSHRC’s directive follows a review of Rajesh’s petition. He argues that other convicts in similar cases have been released after serving 14 years. The Cheemeni Open Jail Superintendent confirmed that Rajesh’s name was recommended for early release in 2024, and the matter is currently pending government approval. The Home Department Secretary will now determine Rajesh’s eligibility for early release.
