Fri May 02 15:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Fetterman Introduces Bill to Restore Stolen SNAP Benefits
**Harrisburg, PA** – Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has introduced the Fairness for Victims of SNAP Skimming Act, aiming to permanently restore Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits stolen from recipients. Currently, victims of SNAP benefit theft are left without recourse unless the theft occurred between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2024 – a temporary provision that has since expired.
Fetterman’s bill seeks to eliminate this limitation, allowing states to replace stolen benefits indefinitely. Furthermore, the proposed legislation would remove the current two-month cap on benefit replacement.
“SNAP is a critical lifeline for millions of Pennsylvanians,” Senator Fetterman stated. “It is despicable that thieves are targeting hungry families, literally taking food from a baby’s mouth. We can’t let vulnerable children go hungry because of these criminals.”
The bill addresses the growing problem of SNAP skimming, a form of fraud where criminals use devices to steal card information from point-of-sale systems. The senator emphasizes the urgent need to protect vulnerable families relying on SNAP benefits. The bill aims to ensure that those who have had their benefits stolen receive full replacement, regardless of the timeframe or amount.
