Fri May 02 02:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Hawks’ Dyson Daniels Crowned NBA’s Most Improved Player

**Atlanta, GA –** Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels has been named the NBA’s Most Improved Player, the league announced Wednesday. The 22-year-old Australian dominated the voting, securing 44 first-place votes and a total of 332 points, significantly outpacing finalists Ivica Zubac (LA Clippers) and Cade Cunningham (Detroit Pistons).

Daniels’ remarkable season saw a dramatic leap in all facets of his game. He led the league in steals with 229 – the most since Gary Payton in 1995-96 – averaging a league-best 3.0 steals per game, a mark not seen since Alvin Robertson in 1990-91. His scoring average also skyrocketed by 8.3 points to 14.1 per game, accompanied by career highs in rebounds (5.9) and assists (4.4). His improved efficiency is reflected in his field goal percentage rising from 43.5% to 49.3%.

This exceptional all-around performance, including at least 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals per game, places Daniels in elite company alongside legends like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan. His defensive prowess, earning him a runner-up spot in the Defensive Player of the Year voting, further solidified his impactful season.

Hawks coach Quin Snyder praised Daniels’ fearlessness and aggressiveness, highlighting his improved ball-handling and driving abilities. The acquisition of Daniels, part of the July trade that sent Dejounte Murray to New Orleans, proved a significant win for Atlanta, also netting valuable draft picks. Despite the Hawks missing the playoffs this year, Daniels expressed optimism for the team’s future.

Daniels becomes only the second Hawks player to win the Most Improved Player award, following Alan Henderson in 1997-98. The award is determined by a global panel of 100 media members.
