Fri May 02 04:40:07 UTC 2025: ## Nepali Student’s Death Prompts Investigation at Indian University
**Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India –** The death of an 18-year-old Nepali student at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar has sparked outrage and calls for a thorough investigation. Prisa Sah, a first-year B.Tech student, was found dead in her hostel room on Thursday evening, May 1st, 2025. This is the second death of a Nepali female student at the university in less than three months, following a similar incident in February.
Nepal’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arzu Rana Deuba, expressed deep sorrow and announced that the ministry is working with Indian authorities to ensure a full investigation. Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Shankar P Sharma, echoed these sentiments.
Police reported that Sah was found hanging in her room and that no suicide note was found. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and a post-mortem will be conducted in the presence of Sah’s parents, who are expected to arrive on Friday. The Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Police Commissioner, S. Dev Dutta Singh, stated that Sah’s friends are cooperating with the investigation.
The February incident led to protests from students alleging harassment and the university’s failure to address their complaints. Over 500 Nepali students were subsequently evicted from the campus. This latest tragedy has reignited concerns about student safety and the handling of such incidents at KIIT University. The ongoing investigation will determine the cause of death and address the broader concerns raised by the Nepali government and students.
