Fri May 02 04:50:00 UTC 2025: **Delhi Flooded After Heavy Rainfall; AAP Blames BJP Government**

NEW DELHI: Heavy rainfall and strong winds lashed the national capital on Friday morning, causing widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the city. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) immediately criticized the BJP government for the city’s poor drainage infrastructure.

AAP leaders Atishi, the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, and Saurabh Bharadwaj, head of the AAP’s Delhi unit, shared photos and videos of waterlogged streets on social media. Atishi highlighted waterlogging near Dhaula Kuan and ITO, questioning the BJP government’s preparedness, referring to it as a “four-engine government” encompassing the central government, Delhi government, municipal corporations, and local MPs. She stated that waterlogging outside a PWD office in ITO symbolized the government’s failure.

Bharadwaj echoed these sentiments, stating that the BJP’s claims of efficient governance were exposed by the flooding after the first significant rainfall. He asserted that excuses and slogans were insufficient, demanding concrete action from the BJP.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attributed the problems to the legacy of the previous government, stating that the issues were a result of 10-12 years of neglect. She criticized the government’s slow response to the crisis. PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, however, visited the affected areas and shared a video of his inspection, claiming that pumps were operational and that efforts were underway to address a burst pipe. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to clean drains in anticipation of the monsoon.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi. The downpour also affected air travel, with three flights diverted and over 100 delayed at Delhi airport. Tragically, a house collapse in the Kharkhari Nahar area of Najafgarh, attributed to a falling tree, resulted in the deaths of three children and a woman.
