Fri May 02 04:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Rains Claim Four Lives, Disrupt Flights and Transportation
**New Delhi, India** – Heavy rains and strong winds lashed Delhi early Friday morning, resulting in the tragic death of four members of the same family in Dwarka. A tree fell on a makeshift tubewell room in Kharkhari Nahar village, where the family was sleeping. The victims were identified as 26-year-old Jyoti and her three children. Jyoti’s husband, Ajay, sustained minor injuries.
The incident occurred around 5:25 AM, prompting a response from the Delhi Fire Service. Teams were deployed to remove the debris and recover the bodies. The Delhi Police are investigating the incident.
The severe weather also caused widespread disruption across the city. In Sheikh Sarai, falling trees damaged several houses and vehicles. Local residents reported that they had repeatedly petitioned authorities to remove the trees, but their requests were ignored.
The intense weather impacted transportation significantly. Waterlogging caused major traffic delays across Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad. Numerous trees and electricity poles were uprooted, further hindering movement. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert, urging citizens to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
The storm also affected air travel. A portion of a tin shed collapsed at Indira Gandhi International Airport, leading to delays for approximately 120 flights. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) confirmed the impact of the adverse weather conditions. Train services were also affected, with delays reported for over 25 trains. The IMD’s red alert underscores the severity of the situation and advises citizens to exercise caution.
