**New Delhi, India** – A severe thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds has battered Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) today, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert. The IMD has also warned of continued inclement weather throughout the weekend.
Gusts reaching speeds of 70-80 kilometers per hour caused widespread damage, including uprooted trees and collapsed structures. Tragically, four people lost their lives due to building collapses. Over 100 flights at Delhi airport were also affected by the severe weather. Waterlogging was reported in numerous low-lying areas and on several roads.
The IMD has urged residents of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and surrounding areas to exercise extreme caution. The agency has issued advisories and alerts concerning the ongoing dangerous weather conditions.
