Fri May 02 04:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Storm Kills Four, Including Three Children, as Tree Collapses on Family

**New Delhi, May 5** – A tragic incident in Delhi’s Jaffarpur Kalan area claimed the lives of four people, including three children, after a large neem tree fell on a makeshift room in a field during a severe thunderstorm. The incident occurred early this morning around 5:26 AM, in the Khadkhari Nahar village, Dwarka district, as high winds, reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h, swept through the region.

The tree crushed the small room, which housed a family, killing 26-year-old Jyoti and her three children – two daughters and a son. Her husband, Ajay Kushwah, was injured but survived. Emergency responders recovered the bodies from the rubble and rushed them to RTR Hospital in Jaffarpur Kalan, where doctors pronounced them dead. Ajay received primary treatment and was discharged.

The incident occurred amidst a severe weather event that battered Delhi-NCR with strong winds, heavy rain, and hail. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for Delhi, warning of 70-80 km/h gusts, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall. The Palam weather station recorded wind speeds of 74 km/h. Authorities advised residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. The IMD’s yellow alert (issued May 1-3) has now passed and a warning for light rain remains in effect until May 6.

The sudden and severe weather change is attributed to a Western Disturbance and a large cloud mass passing over Delhi, coupled with the onset of pre-monsoon activities. The heavy rain and strong winds caused significant waterlogging and traffic disruptions across several low-lying areas in Delhi-NCR.

Delhi Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
