Thu May 01 11:07:24 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Forest Department Captures Trouble-Making Tusker
**Shivamogga, May 1, 2025** – The Karnataka Forest Department successfully captured a rogue tusker responsible for recent human-elephant conflict in the Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district. The operation, conducted on May 1st, followed protests from local residents after a man, Shanmukha, was killed in an elephant attack on April 25th. The tusker, estimated to be 20 years old, was also implicated in attacks on agricultural workers.
The capture involved the use of tranquilizer darts and the assistance of several trained elephants. Conservator of Forests Yedukondalu V. and Deputy Conservator of Forests Sourabh Kumar oversaw the operation. This is the latest in a series of elephant captures in the region; in March, the department captured three other elephants, with two relocated to camps and one fitted with a radio-collar. Two additional tuskers also received radio-collars in March. The captured tusker’s future location remains unstated.
