Thu May 01 16:40:00 UTC 2025: **Rangers Acquire Young Pitcher Segura from Phillies in Exchange for Robert**
ARLINGTON, TX – The Texas Rangers announced an early morning trade with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, sending right-handed pitcher Daniel Robert to Philadelphia in exchange for 20-year-old right-hander Enrique Segura.
Robert, 30, was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Monday. Despite a strong minor league career, including a 1.54 ERA with two saves and 17 strikeouts at Triple-A Round Rock this season, his chances of making the Rangers’ major league roster this year were considered slim. He made four major league appearances with Texas in 2022.
In return, the Rangers acquired Segura, a promising young pitcher signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent in 2022. Segura has a 3.18 ERA over 17 innings pitched at Single-A Clearwater this season, accumulating 44 professional appearances, 36 of which were starts.
The trade appears beneficial for both teams. The Phillies gain a veteran arm in Robert to bolster their struggling bullpen. For the Rangers, Segura represents a valuable young pitching prospect with significant upside, adding depth to their organization.
