**New Delhi, May 1, 2025** – India has stepped up diplomatic efforts following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd, which killed 26 people. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have joined calls for de-escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, following similar appeals from the UAE.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with his counterparts in Kuwait and Denmark, expressing gratitude for their support and solidarity. The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry highlighted the close bilateral relationship between the two countries. Saudi Arabia issued a statement expressing concern over escalating tensions and urging both India and Pakistan to resolve disputes diplomatically.
Mr. Jaishankar also engaged in conversations with several UN Security Council members, including the UAE, Sierra Leone, and Slovenia, thanking them for their condemnation of the attack. While the UN Security Council issued a statement condemning the attack and expressing condolences, it notably omitted mention of The Resistance Front (TRF), the group India holds responsible.
Despite the heightened tensions, India’s diplomatic engagements continue. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit Russia for Victory Day celebrations, and Angola’s President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco will be visiting New Delhi from May 1-4.
