Thu May 01 01:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Rockets’ Thin Bench a Concern as Playoffs Intensify

**HOUSTON, TX –** The Houston Rockets, boasting impressive depth during the preseason, are facing a critical playoff dilemma: an increasingly thin bench rotation. While most NBA playoff teams shorten their rotations, the Rockets’ reliance on a mere eight players, with only three seeing significant bench minutes, is raising eyebrows.

Throughout their playoff series, Steven Adams, Tari Eason, and Jabari Smith Jr. have been the primary bench contributors. While coach Ime Udoka briefly expanded the rotation in Game 2, he has reverted to a tight core when games are close.

This limited rotation is compounding the Rockets’ offensive struggles. Shooting woes, particularly from beyond the arc (33% from three), have hampered Houston’s performance. With their backs against the wall, Udoka may need to consider utilizing some of his deeper bench options.

Several players could provide a spark. Rookie Reed Sheppard, known for his three-point range (50% in his final three regular season games), is a potential solution. Cam Whitmore, despite a slow start, improved offensively towards the end of the regular season and possesses shot-creation abilities. Veteran forward Jeff Green, though unlikely to see major minutes given the team’s established forward rotation, offers a wealth of experience.

While Udoka isn’t expected to overhaul his rotation drastically, even sparing minutes for these players could prove crucial as the Rockets fight to stay alive in the playoffs.
