Wed Apr 30 19:09:36 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Quarry Halts Protest After District Administration Promises Action
**TIRUPPUR, Tamil Nadu, May 1, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Protection Association has called off a planned protest against illegal mining activities at a private quarry in Kondangipalayam. The decision follows a directive from the Tiruppur District Collector, T. Christuraj, ordering the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) to take action against the quarry.
A report by a taluk-level task force revealed that the quarry exceeded its permitted mining limits, extracting 281,162 cubic meters of ordinary stones and 44,068 cubic meters of gravel between 2008 and 2016. The survey utilized Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) equipment to precisely determine the extent of the over-extraction.
The RDO is mandated to take action under the 1959 Tamil Nadu Minor Mineral Concession Rules and Government Order 170 (August 5, 2020), which addresses illegal mineral transportation. Penalties will be imposed for violations, including exceeding lease limits and transporting minerals without permits. The association’s decision to suspend its protest suggests confidence in the district administration’s commitment to address the issue.
