**Belagavi, Karnataka, May 1, 2025** – The Belagavi-based Pyaas Foundation celebrated the completion of its 14th water conservation project with the handover of two revitalized lakes to local stakeholders on April 30th. One project involved the rejuvenation of the seven-and-a-half-acre Gajapati lake, funded in part by Jinabakul Forge Private Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. This lake was handed over to the Gajapati gram panchayat.
The second project, a unique achievement, saw the creation of the Dhobhi Ghat Lake, the first man-made lake built in Belagavi in over 50 years. This 1.5-acre lake, supported by Sneham Taping Solutions’ CSR efforts and guided by the Indian Institute of Hydrology, features an artificial island planted with fruit trees to attract birds and promote biodiversity. It was gifted to the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre’s Cantonment Board.
Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, Minister of Women and Child Development, and Disabled and Senior Citizens Empowerment, expressed gratitude for the foundation’s work and pledged continued support for such initiatives. Zilla Panchayat CEO Rahul Shinde also offered full cooperation. Brigadier Joydip Mukherjee, Commandant of the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, praised the foundation’s efforts, while Cantonment Board CEO Rajeev Kumar committed to further develop the Dhobhi Ghat Lake with a public garden.
