Wed Apr 30 09:53:56 UTC 2025: ## Modi Skips Moscow Victory Day Parade; Singh to Attend

**Moscow, April 30, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of Victory Day in Moscow next month, the Kremlin announced today. Instead, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will represent India at the military parade commemorating the Allied victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that while an invitation was extended to Prime Minister Modi, India informed Russia that Mr. Singh would attend. This signifies that India will not be represented at the highest level at the event, which is expected to host around 20 foreign leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Mr. Modi’s absence marks a change from previous years, considering his two visits to Russia in 2024. While the reasons for his non-attendance remain unstated, the move carries diplomatic significance, given the ongoing global geopolitical landscape. The annual summit between President Putin and Prime Minister Modi is still expected to take place in India this year. The upcoming Victory Day parade is anticipated to be a significant event, as evidenced by President Putin’s recent comments highlighting the historical importance of the Soviet victory on the Eastern Front.
