**Kodala, Odisha:** In a highly unusual turn of events, a man accused of rape married his victim within the confines of a sub-jail in Odisha. Surya Kant Behera, accused of raping a 22-year-old woman from Gochhabadi, married the complainant on Sunday in Kodala sub-jail.
The woman had filed a complaint with Polasara police in November 2024, alleging that Behera had raped her under the pretense of marriage. Behera was arrested and has been incarcerated ever since.
However, following discussions between both families aimed at an amicable settlement, the couple petitioned the court for permission to marry. The court granted the request, leading to the jailhouse wedding, conducted according to Hindu traditions by jail authorities.
While the marriage has taken place, Behera will remain in jail pending the final verdict in the rape case.
