**Belagavi, Karnataka – May 1, 2025** – A North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) bus driver, A. R. Mulla, has been suspended pending an inquiry into allegations that he stopped his bus to offer namaz on April 30th. The incident, which occurred on the Vishalgad to Hangal route around 5:30 pm, sparked controversy after videos and images circulated on social media.
The suspension was ordered by the NWKRTC Haveri Divisional Controller. While acknowledging the driver’s right to religious freedom, Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy stated that such practices are unacceptable while on duty. He emphasized that public servants must adhere to regulations and that stopping a bus full of passengers to perform religious rituals is objectionable. A senior officer will conduct a full investigation, and Mulla is eligible for 50% of his salary during the suspension period.
