**NEW DELHI, May 1, 2025** – Following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India on April 22nd that killed 26 people, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have joined calls for de-escalation between India and Pakistan. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with his counterparts in both countries, expressing gratitude for their support and solidarity. The Saudi Foreign Ministry issued a statement expressing concern over rising tensions and urging both nations to resolve disputes diplomatically.
This follows similar appeals from the UAE, with Minister Jaishankar also engaging in discussions with several UN Security Council members, including Denmark, Sierra Leone, and Slovenia. While the UNSC issued a statement condemning the attack, it notably omitted mention of The Resistance Front (TRF), the group India blames for the incident.
India continues its diplomatic efforts, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh departing for Russia to participate in Victory Day celebrations, and Angola’s President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco set to visit India from May 1st to 4th. These engagements underscore India’s commitment to maintaining its diplomatic schedule despite the heightened tensions with Pakistan.
