KALABURAGI, INDIA – May 1, 2025 – A state-level convention for women agricultural workers in Kalaburagi emphasized the crucial role of education and legal awareness in empowering women. The fifth annual convention, organized by the Karnataka Pranta Krishi Koolikarara Sangha and the Women Agricultural Workers State Sub-Committee, featured speeches from Nagabai Bulla, former member of the Karnataka Public Service Commission, and Advocate Sarasija Rajan.

Bulla stressed education as the key to overcoming challenges faced by women, including poverty, illiteracy, and superstition. She urged mothers to prioritize their children’s education, emphasizing its power to build a better future, even in the face of hardship. She also cautioned against relying on others for change and advised wise management of finances, warning against the pitfalls of readily available microfinance loans.

Rajan highlighted the importance of legal awareness, explaining that knowledge of women’s rights provides strength and protection against legal exploitation. She emphasized women’s equal rights to ancestral property, a significant legal reform, and encouraged those facing injustice to utilize the Legal Services Authorities available in court complexes.

The convention saw participation from numerous union leaders and activists, underscoring the widespread support for empowering women in the agricultural sector.
