MYSURU, INDIA (April 30, 2025) – A new state-of-the-art center dedicated to polymer science and rubber technology was inaugurated today at the JSS Technical Institutions in Mysuru. The Dr. D. Banerjee Centre of Excellence (DBCOE), a collaboration between the Indian Rubber Institute (IRI) and JSS Mahavidyapeetha, aims to boost India’s rubber industry, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The facility boasts advanced training labs, including those focused on rubber processing, testing, analysis, and even tyre testing. It also features a 225-seat auditorium and a library. Sixty industry experts will provide training across various rubber sector job roles. The DBCOE is equipped with cutting-edge machinery such as rolling resistance testing machines and high-speed endurance testers.

Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur mutt inaugurated the DBCOE building, with Raghupathi Singhania, CMD of JK Tyre and Industries Ltd., officiating the auditorium opening. Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy highlighted the significance of academia-industry partnerships and expressed optimism about Mysuru becoming a hub for the rubber industry. The IRI believes the DBCOE will serve as a key training and skill development center for the entire southern region of India.
