Wed Apr 30 16:56:57 UTC 2025: **Bengaluru’s BBMP Gets New Chief Commissioner**

**Bengaluru, April 30, 2025** – M. Maheshwar Rao, a 1995-batch IAS officer, assumed the role of Chief Commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Wednesday. He succeeds Tushar Giri Nath, who will now serve as the BBMP’s Administrator and Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) in the Urban Development Department.

Rao’s priorities include completing ongoing infrastructure projects under the “Brand Bengaluru” initiative, launched by his predecessor. He highlighted the importance of timely completion of these ambitious projects. His appointment comes at a crucial time as the BBMP undergoes restructuring into multiple municipal corporations to improve governance and service delivery. Giri Nath will oversee this decentralization process.

Rao, who previously served as BBMP Chief Commissioner in 2018, brings extensive experience from various roles, including serving in the Labour Department, as Commissioner for Industrial Development, Director of Industries and Commerce, and Deputy Commissioner in several districts. He will continue his role as Managing Director of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). Giri Nath expressed confidence that this dual role will improve coordination between the BBMP and BMRCL.

Addressing the persistent issue of urban flooding, Rao stated that while progress has been made, several areas still require attention. He committed to prioritizing these areas in the coming days.
