Thu May 01 09:56:16 UTC 2025: ## Underprivileged Children Showcase Talents at Bengaluru Summer Camp Finale

**Bengaluru, May 1, 2025** – Ninety-five children from underprivileged communities in Jakkur, Bengaluru, will showcase their artistic talents at the culmination of a three-week summer camp on May 4th. Organized by the AHUM (Art Heart U & Mind) Trust in collaboration with the Satya Foundation, the “Kalakrida” program provided training in creative writing, theatre, music, konnakol (a South Indian percussion art), painting, and movement.

The free performance, taking place at 6:30 pm at Jakkur PU College, will feature original songs composed by the children, a medley of Kannada songs, a rhythmic konnakol performance, storytelling based on their creative writing, a contemporary dance piece titled “Trapped in the Feed,” a Kannada adaptation of “The Chalk Circle,” and an art exhibition.

Bharatanatyam dancer and founder of AHUM, Anuradha Venkatraman, highlighted the program’s aim to foster non-cognitive skills often overlooked in traditional education. She emphasized the importance of art in developing emotional growth, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. The camp, running since 2016, typically attracts more students but experiences dropouts due to students’ need to contribute to family income during the holidays. This year’s program provided the students with lunch and transportation.

Venkatraman stressed the program’s role in giving children a platform for self-expression, which many lack at home and school. She also noted plans to expand Kalakrida into a year-round initiative, providing a continuous space for artistic expression and emotional growth. The program is funded through crowdfunding and support from various foundations and businesses. The public is invited to attend the free showcase and support the children’s achievements.
