**Kariyapatti, Tamil Nadu, May 1, 2025** – Virudhunagar Collector V. P. Jeyaseelan today lauded the hard work of the working class, highlighting their crucial role in societal progress. Speaking at a Gram Sabha meeting in P. Pudupatti village, he emphasized the transformative impact of laborers’ efforts, citing the conversion of forests into farmland and the construction of roads as prime examples.
The May Day meeting served as a tribute to the contributions of workers, with the Collector noting the legal protections afforded to them, including the eight-hour workday. A key resolution passed at the meeting pledged to eradicate child labor within the village and ensure all individuals under 18 years of age are enrolled in school. Several district officials participated in the event.
Separately, Sivakasi MLA G. Ashokan celebrated May Day by providing clothing and a meal to construction workers involved in a local flyover project.
