NEW DELHI (May 1, 2025) – A 19-year-old died and a 28-year-old was injured after allegedly jumping from a moving police vehicle in Vasant Kunj North, Delhi, on Wednesday. The two men, arrested on Tuesday for vehicle theft, were being transported to a medical facility when the incident occurred.
Police claim the men jumped from the vehicle in an attempt to escape. Ravi Sahni, 19, was declared dead on arrival at IGI Hospital, while Vikas, 28, sustained minor injuries. A country-made pistol and live cartridge were recovered from Vikas.
However, the victims’ families allege police brutality, claiming the men were beaten and taken to a forested area before their arrest. They have blocked the Samalkha-Kapashera road and demanded strict action against the officers involved. A judicial inquiry into the death is underway and police have initiated legal proceedings. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Surendra Choudhary is attempting to de-escalate the situation. The incident has sparked protests and raised concerns about police conduct.
