Thu May 01 01:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Appoints New National Security Advisor Amidst India-Pakistan Tensions
**ISLAMABAD** – Pakistan has appointed Lieutenant General Muhammad Asiim Malik as its new National Security Advisor (NSA), a move that comes amidst heightened tensions with India following a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgham, Jammu and Kashmir. The appointment, announced by Pakistan’s Cabinet Division, is significant given concerns of a potential Indian military response to the attack, which resulted in 26 deaths.
General Malik will concurrently retain his position as Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s powerful intelligence agency. This dual role marks the first time an ISI chief has also served as NSA. The NSA position has been vacant since April 2022, following the removal of the Tehreek-i-Insaf government and Dr. Moeed Yusuf’s tenure as NSA.
According to Pakistani media, analysts believe Malik’s combined roles will streamline military intelligence and national security policy-making. General Malik, appointed ISI chief in September 2024, will play a crucial role in shaping Pakistan’s national security strategy in his new capacity as the nation’s 10th NSA.
