**Pahalgam, Kashmir –** A Karnataka family narrowly escaped death during a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadows on April 22nd, which claimed the lives of 25 tourists and a local pony ride operator. Pradeep Hegde, his wife Shubha, and their son Siddhant were visiting the popular tourist spot, known as “Mini Switzerland,” when the attack unfolded.
The family, who arrived in Srinagar on April 21st, spent the morning of the 22nd trekking to Baisaran. While enjoying the scenery and having lunch near food stalls, they heard what they initially believed to be firecrackers. However, within seconds, they saw two terrorists firing indiscriminately.
Shubha Hegde recounted a terrifying moment where a bullet grazed her hair as she bent to retrieve their bag. The near-miss, she said, was a miracle. The family immediately dropped to the ground as the terrorists continued their attack. Amidst the chaos, they managed to escape the immediate vicinity, running for several kilometers before finding their horseman, who helped them reach safety.
Pradeep Hegde described the harrowing escape, stating that the family was initially unsure of what was happening and that their escape was a combination of luck and their wife’s calm demeanor. Their son, exhausted from the ordeal, was eventually able to ride a horse down the treacherous mountain path.
