Tue Apr 29 19:00:00 UTC 2025: **Millions of Americans to Receive Extra Social Security Checks in May**
**Washington, D.C.** – Millions of Social Security recipients will see extra money in their bank accounts this May thanks to a quirk in the payment schedule. Approximately 7.4 million Americans receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits will receive both their May and June payments early, resulting in two SSI checks in May. This affects those who are disabled, blind, or aged 65 or older and have limited income and resources.
Further, roughly one-third of SSI recipients also receive traditional Social Security benefits, meaning they will receive a total of three payments in May. The timing of traditional Social Security payments varies depending on the recipient’s birthdate, with payments issued on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month. Those receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 receive their payment on the 3rd.
The early June SSI payment, scheduled for May 30th, is due to June 1st falling on a weekend. This means there will be no SSI payment issued in June. This calendar quirk will repeat in August (August and September payments in August) and October (October and November payments in October).
The Social Security Administration (SSA) website offers further details on SSI eligibility requirements and payment schedules.
