KYIV, UKRAINE (April 30, 2025) – A wave of Russian drone attacks on the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Dnipro late Tuesday left at least one person dead and 46 injured, Ukrainian officials reported. The attacks, which targeted residential areas and civilian infrastructure, come as the United States announced it would withdraw from mediation efforts in the Russia-Ukraine conflict unless both sides present concrete peace proposals.

In Kharkiv, at least 45 people, including two children and a pregnant woman, were injured in 16 separate strikes, according to regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that high-rise apartment buildings, private homes, and a medical facility were among the targets. Residents described scenes of chaos and destruction, with shattered windows and damaged balconies.

Dnipropetrovsk region Governor Serhiy Lysak reported one fatality and another injury in the city of Dnipro, where drone strikes ignited fires and damaged homes. He also stated that nine Russian drones were shot down over the region.

These attacks follow a declaration by Russian President Vladimir Putin of a three-day ceasefire from May 8-10 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has countered by calling for a 30-day ceasefire. Additional attacks were reported in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, resulting in further casualties.
