Wed Apr 30 12:40:00 UTC 2025: ## PWHL Expands to Seattle, Bringing Women’s Hockey to the Pacific Northwest

**SEATTLE, WA (April 30, 2025)** – The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) announced today its expansion into Seattle, Washington, with a new team slated to debut in the 2025-26 season. The team, temporarily known as PWHL Seattle, will call Climate Pledge Arena home and train at the Kraken Community Iceplex. Its colors will be emerald green and cream.

The announcement follows an extensive Request for Proposal (RFP) process, with Seattle’s bid spearheaded by Oak View Group and the Seattle Kraken. The city’s strong youth hockey community, passionate women’s sports fanbase, and state-of-the-art facilities made it a prime location for expansion. The success of the PWHL Takeover Tour in Seattle, which drew over 12,000 attendees to Climate Pledge Arena in January, further solidified the decision.

The PWHL Seattle team will join the league’s single-entity ownership structure under The Walter Group. Details regarding the Expansion Draft and integration into the June 24th PWHL Draft will be revealed shortly.

PWHL Executive Vice President of Business Operations, Amy Scheer, added, “The opportunity to start a new chapter of women’s hockey in the Pacific Northwest… combined with calling the world-class Climate Pledge Arena home has so much meaning for our league.” Jayna Hefford, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations, highlighted the anticipated rivalry with Vancouver, located just 140 miles away. Kraken owner Samantha Holloway expressed pride in welcoming the PWHL to Seattle.

The 2025-26 season will feature 30 games per team, with the full schedule released later this summer. Fans can secure priority access to season tickets by placing a deposit starting today at 11 a.m. PT.
