Mon Apr 28 19:43:48 UTC 2025: ## India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate After Pahalgam Terror Attack

**ISLAMABAD, April 29, 2025** – Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif warned Monday of an imminent Indian military incursion into Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. The attack has sparked outrage in India and prompted calls for retaliation.

Asif stated that Pakistan has bolstered its forces in anticipation of an Indian attack, citing strategic decisions made in response to the perceived threat. While he did not elaborate on the intelligence suggesting an imminent incursion, he confirmed that Pakistan’s military had briefed the government on the possibility. India’s External Affairs and Defence Ministries have yet to respond to requests for comment.

Pakistan has heightened its security alert, but Asif assured that nuclear weapons would only be deployed in the event of a direct existential threat. Islamabad has engaged with friendly nations, including Gulf states and China, as well as the US and UK, to address the situation. China has called for restraint, while the US has reportedly remained uninvolved.

In the wake of the attack, both countries have implemented retaliatory measures. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, while Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian airlines. Asif condemned India’s suspension of the treaty as an “act of war,” urging international intervention through the World Bank and other relevant bodies to protect the agreement.
