**Alappuzha, Kerala, April 30, 2025** – The Alappuzha district in Kerala is stepping up preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. Agriculture Minister P. Prasad chaired a meeting today outlining a range of preemptive measures to mitigate potential flood damage.

Key initiatives include assessing and preparing relief camps, reinforcing coastal areas with geobags and sandbags to prevent sea erosion, and deploying lifeguards on beaches. The Irrigation department is tasked with removing silt and waste to ensure smooth water flow, while the Education department is ensuring school buildings are safe and have fitness certificates by May 15. The removal of trees posing risks to power lines and school children is nearing completion. Paddy polder committees are strengthening field bunds, and the Suchitwa Mission aims to have 100 bio-toilets ready before the monsoon. The Fisheries department will deploy rescue boats at key harbors. The meeting was attended by several MLAs, the District Collector, and other officials.
