Wed Apr 30 05:27:12 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Opens Fire Across International Border After Pahalgam Terror Attack

**NEW DELHI** – Tensions between India and Pakistan have dramatically escalated following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, including tourists. Pakistan, accused by India of supporting the attack, opened fire across the International Border (IB) in the Pargawal sector last night, a highly provocative act following previous ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LOC). This marks a significant escalation, as IB firing is exceedingly rare.

The Indian Army responded effectively to the cross-border firing, which occurred in three key sectors of the Jammu region. The attack in Pahalgam, which targeted innocent civilians and tourists, has ignited widespread outrage in India.

In response, the Indian government has taken strong measures against Pakistan. This includes suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, halting visa services for Pakistani nationals, downsizing diplomatic staff, and demanding the expulsion of all Pakistani citizens from India. Pakistan has threatened to retaliate by suspending all bilateral agreements, including the Simla Agreement which established the LOC.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed the nation’s grief and anger, vowing retribution for the terrorists and those who orchestrated the attack. He declared a determination to dismantle terrorist havens and stressed India’s resolve to combat terrorism.

Amidst the escalating crisis, UN Secretary-General António Guterres spoke with both External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar of India and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, strongly condemning the Pahalgam attack. He emphasized the need for justice and accountability through legal means while urging both nations to avoid further confrontation. The international community is closely watching as the situation remains highly volatile.
